Photon Storm Clownfish, Amphiprion ocellaris

Photon Storm is the first hybrid Storm clownfish from Sea & Reef. It was created by pairing one of our  with one of our . The Photon Storm Clownfish therefore has both ocellaris and percula genetics. For the first time, “storm” genetics have been incorporated into a hybrid clownfish. We named it Photon Storm Clownfish due to the similarity with which our  are produced ( x ). Similarly to the Black Storm Clownfish, there are a lot of variations in the white markings and perhaps even more so with the addition of the Picasso genes. Many Photon Storms have extensive white markings on their bodies and faces (see pictures). There are also very interesting transitions between the black and brown body coloration (see stock photo). The Photon Storm Clownfish juveniles have a lighter brown coloration, which then changes to a more black appearance as the fish grows and matures. This is similar to many of our Black Clownfish, including the Black Ocellaris Clownfish and the Photon Clownfish. This Sea & Reef signature designer Clownfish was released on October 20, 2023.

Temperament and Captive Care

The temperament and captive care requirements for Tangerine Storm Clownfish is very similar to that of the regular Ocellaris clownfish. It is relatively peaceful and hardy. They thrive in saltwater aquariums with or without an anemone present.

Feeding

Most clownfish are omnivorous feeders, meaning that they will consume a variety of different food types. In nature the diet of clownfish consists of crustaceans (such as copepods and amphipods), algae, polychaete worms and leftovers from the anemone’s meal. Our captive bred fish are conditioned to eat a variety of aquarium diets including pellets, flake food, frozen Mysis shrimp, and frozen brine shrimp.

Aquarium Host Anemones

The Tangerine Storm Clownfish will readily accept a wide variety of host anemones and many hobbyists keep them with the popular and hardy Bubble Tip Anemone (Entacmaea quadricolor). As a reference the natural host anemones of the regular ocellaris clownfish are Magnificent Sea Anemone (Heteractis magnifica), Giant Carpet Sea Anemone (Stichodactyla gigantean) and Merten's Carpet Sea Anemone (Stichodactyla mertensii).
